The Village of DeForest is proud to launch the Hometown Hero Banner Project, honoring local veterans and active-duty service members.

About the Campaign

Support the heroes in our community by participating in the Hometown Hero Banner Program, a special initiative designed to honor and remember those who have served and are currently serving. Funds raised will cover the cost of creating and installing banners that provide a tribute to those who have sacrificed for our freedom.

Hometown Hero Banners will be displayed along Main Street from Holum Street to Hwy V/North Street and within Veterans Memorial Park.

Program Requirements

Veterans - living or deceased - must have had a connection to the Village of DeForest at some point during their lives. This connection includes individuals who were born or resided in the Village, those who attended DeForest schools, those commemorated on Village of DeForest War Memorials, or Veterans who have received recommendations from the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and American Legion posts.

Era of Service: Official DOD Dates

  • Gulf War / Global War on Terror: September 11, 2001 - Present (Afghanistan, Iraq, etc.)
  • Desert Storm: January 17, 1991 - April 11, 1991
  • Persian Gulf: August 2, 1990 - August 31, 1991
  • Cold War: September 2, 1945 - December 26, 1991
  • Vietnam Era: February 28, 1961 - May 7, 1975
  • Korean Conflict Era: June 27, 1950 - January 31, 1955
  • WWII Era: December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946
  • WWI Era: April 6, 1917 - November 11, 1918
  • Spanish - American War: April 21, 1898 - July 4, 1902
  • Civil War: 1861 - 1865
  • War of 1812: 1812 - 1815
  • American Revolutionary War: 1775 – 1783

Guidelines

  • A total of 16 banner spots will be available for the initial launch of the Hometown Hero Banner Project.
  • Hometown Hero Banners will be proudly displayed for two years starting Memorial Day weekend. After that, they will be returned to the applicant as we prepare for the next round of honorees.

To Participate

  • Complete the online form and you'll be emailed the application to provide service details, information on how your Hometown Hero is connected DeForest, etc.

  • An Hometown Hero Application (PDF) can be mailed or completed in person at Village Hall (120 S. Stevenson St.).
  • Submit payment $75.00 (cash, check: Village of DeForest or credit card (+ service fees)).
  • Provide a high resolution photograph of your Hometown Hero in uniform.
